AN OUTREACH ACTIVITY
BLOOD DONATION INITIATIVE AT IMA BLOOD BANK THRISSUREvery endeavour committed by humanity has left imprints and impressions on the societal history surpassed. Hence good or bad, what counts at last is the re-fitment the society has underwent. Abiding to such an irresistible developmental nature of humanity all sort of epistemological and pedagogical practices has social implications rooted in it. Likewise the hands of this institution are always in search for the executable social welfare.
Our educational community of pedagogy practitioners and the future pedagogic practitioners guide our perspective towards such welfare activities not merely as curricular exercise but as something that will leave imprints upon on which the humanity can do better. Our educational community ARAFA Institute for Teacher Education amidst the rush curricular days intermittently deviate and immerse ourself; body and mind to satisfy the institutional objective of aiding the society.
The community of ARAFA unanimously decided to perform a mass blood donation since we found it as the most apt at the current scenario. The research and discussions of individuals among the administration and students found it wise to donate directly at donation centre rather than organizing a campaign.
On the day 08/08/2023 institution encouraged the pupils to donate blood at IMA Blood Bank, Ramavarmapuram, Thrissur. IMA Blood Bank Complex and Research Centre is a joint project of IMA(Indian Medical Association), Thrissur District Panchayath under People’s Plan Programme. The initiative was spearheaded under the leadership of Dr.Shahana. A M – respected principal of AITE.
Student unit reached IMA Blood Bank at around 10AM. Mr. Suresh Babu, Cheif Technician, IMA Blood Bank was our guide at the facility. The facility visit was offered by the administration faculty which made our little welfare contribution much more purposeful. To be precise the exploration provided us with a highly informative session since the science behind the simple act of blood collection was found to be stupendous.
The facility tour comprised of four major sub sessions ie, Theoretical session on blood donation, visits to Screening section , Bleeding section and Storage section. As for the easy and optimal utilization of time we separated ourselves into two batches as the first batch participate the facility tour, the latter moves to screening before blood donation. Screening was a mere basic data gathering and counselling to designate the donation participant as fit or unfit. The fit one is directed to proceed to bleeding for extraction. Handling throughout the procedure and pampering the donor found to be impressively meticulous.
The storage facility is developed with imported state of the art medical technologies. Finance is appropriately obtained through state sources and other welfare organizations. The screening results suggested 15 fit donors. Past the blood donation a brief interactive session with administration faculty was arranged in the facility premises. Our educational community was altogether appreciated by the IMA Blood Bank management. It is worthy to mention that our heart filled event filled us with ecstasy.
We stepped out with an intention to satisfy our societal motive but as spiritualist claims a good deed is always rewarded. The faculty visit was out of the blue. The entire day was more than worthy of spending since we are resulted with a realization that every unit of the precious red we give three lives are saved. It is indeed the greatest motivation, extreme ecstasy and noble tranquility we could ever receive.
